About Blackbrook House
The House
Blackbrook House, built in the late 1800’s for the prosperous Strutt Family
is a splendid privately owned Victorian country mansion, set within a perfect mix of 8 acres of woodland and gardens. The house combines traditional Victorian hospitality with wonderfully interesting food, complimented by style, quality and a relaxed ambience often aspired to but so rarely found.
Set in the Derwent Valley, with beautiful views of the rolling Derbyshire countryside yet just 10 minutes from Derby and 15 minutes from the M1.
Being privately owned nothing is too much trouble at Blackbrook House; we ensure that every guest has absolutely what they need and where ever possible a little bit more.
The house has so much flexibility within its rooms and surroundings – virtually anything goes.
The grounds make superb backdrops and a marquee can be added to give additional flexibility to numbers
The Rooms
The Drawing Room – Decorated in true Victorian style with panelled walls of warm gold’s and drapes in beautiful reds and rich blues that compliment the proportions of the room and the splendor of the house. A wonderful square bay window, with seating to admire the views of the rolling hillside and the dark oak fireplace give this room a feeling of true opulence.
The Garden Room – The warmth of the colours and the expanse of windows within this room, make it a wonderful bright happy room. Spectacular views of the gardens and hillside give the feeling of total peace and tranquillity.
The Bluebell Room – A small room next to the drawing room, aptly named because of the wonderful view of the woodlands which are adorned with spectacular bluebells during May. This room has a really cosy feel to it and makes for a wonderful private dining room or small lounge.
The Terrace Room – A uniquely flexible room having two removable walls within it enable party sizes to be accommodated from 30 to 150 guests. The stunning glass atriums, oak bar and oak dance floor together with the warm creams and the sage greens blend beautifully with the open country side and terrace on to which the room leads from triple french doors. To experience the true beauty and flexibility of this room it has to be seen.
The Gardens and Woodland
The Gardens – The Giant Canadian Redwoods give a feel of grandeur to the picturesque garden, together with vast expanses of grass provide a beautiful environment to relax and walk within or to use as the backdrop for that special occasion.
Landscaped in true Victorian style, with lawns and woodland areas, the grounds offer tranquillity and peace. Hiding behind trees many of the areas are totally private and secluded.
Garden parties, champagne receptions or summer BBQ’s are a pleasure to be experienced. When the numbers get too big for the house, then a marquee gives the ability to spill over into the garden.
The Woodlands give another dimension to the gardens. In spring the beauty extends further – a vast carpet of bluebells. Extending to over 6 acres, wonderful mid day walks can be enjoyed whilst listening to the birds and wildlife, which call our woods their home.
